Allison Gardner Martin is honored to serve as this year’s honorary fundraiser chair.  She is walking in memory of her mother, Sandra Gardner, who died of colon cancer in July of 2014.

“My mother, Sandra Gardner, was a retired middle school teacher who was 66 years old when she passed away.  She was a wife, mother and grandmother whom we miss terribly,” Martin said.  “The loss of my mother and her battle to survive profoundly changed my family and me forever.  My mother had a very aggressive form of cancer, and I now live every day knowing my risk of being diagnosed with colon cancer is higher.  I followed the guidelines and started receiving screenings at 40 years of age, and am now tested every two years.  Early detection is the key, and I plan on fighting colon cancer and preventing it.”

Martin is the Communications & Community Relations Director for the Jefferson County Public School District.  She previously served as Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway.  Prior to her service with Attorney General Conway, Martin was Deputy Communications Director for then Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson.  Martin was a long-time reporter for WLKY-TV, the CBS affiliate in Louisville, and a news anchor for WBKO-TV in Bowling Green, Ky.

Allison is originally from Glasgow, Ky.  She is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.  She lives in Louisville with her husband, Tony, and their two children.
